Hickory

Sapele

Hard Maple

Since durability of these tables is top priority, a combination of these 3 hardwoods are the best option.
Hickory, Sapele and Hard Maple are among the hardest species of lumber available, are currently “cost friendly,” and have a lot of character in wood grain and color – especially with a clear satin finish.
The Hickory and Sapele will make up for the majority of the design, while the Hard Maple serves as a detailed inlay to accentuate the contrasting colors.
Design & Construction
The drawings below are just some basic patterns that may be of interest. Each design uses roughly the same amount of material so the final cost will be the same.
The construction of these tables will be as follows:
• 36″ x 36″ overall dimensions
• The design inside the frame will measure 1.25″ thick x 32″ wide x 32″ deep
• Underneath the 32″ x 32″ square is a 3/4″ thick plywood substrate
• The outer frame dimensions are 2″ thick x 2″ wide x 36″ long
